Cambodia second stakeholder meeting on September 28, 2015 at Royal University of Agriculture (RUA), Phnom Penh, Cambodia
The Cambodia 2nd stakeholder meeting was hosted by Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on 28 September 2015. The objectives of the workshop are to disseminate the results of 2 years research, and to initiate fruitful discussions among policy makers, energy experts, and relevant stakeholders from the government institutions, private sector, international organizations, and NGOs in Cambodia.
After presenting an overview of MECON project by Prof. Kunthy Sok, Mr. LIENG Vuthy, deputy director of Department of New and Renewable Energy, presented “National Strategy, Policy and Action Plan on Energy Efficiency in Cambodia”. He addressed the five main energy efficient activities such as industry activities, end user products activities, building activities, rural electrification activities and biomass activities. For the panel discussion, the representative from MME has also discussed about translating EE foreign labels to Cambodian language.
The preventative from Bridge & Eternity Trading Company stated that the company has done several activities to promote LED among households in the future and provides EE information to users as much as the company can. The higher price is the most important barriers and information barrier is also the main barrier to prevent consumers from adopting energy efficient technology.
For the last activities, participants were divided into three groups for discussing about three different topics. Group1: Institutional analysis using institutional mapping and current institutional condition in Cambodia; Goup2: Institution model (use excel file to discuss); and Group3: Institutional challenges in Cambodia and the room for future improvement. All participants do satisfy with policy recommendation developed by MECON project.
